The Regional Agency for Planning and Construction for the southern region (ERAC-Sud) will build 23,596 housing units in 2007, worth USD 210Mn.

The agency will purchase 361ha in 2007 and upgrade various land plots, while giving priority to the purchase of land plots to build the new city "Tagadirt" on 1,129 ha.

Morocco built a total of 330,000 housing units of all categories in 2006, according to statistics of the Housing and Urbanism Ministry.

The constructions include 115,000 low-cost housing units, against only 113,000 a year before. 21% of bank loans concern this sector, against 15% in 2002.

10,000 people benefited from the newly created (FOGARIM) fund, which aims to provide real estate loans to people without a fixed employment or salary. About 20,000 applications are expected in 2007.

Investments in this field jumped from MAD 18Bn in 2002 to MAD 36Bn in 2006 (about USD 4.2Bn).
