Bouregreg valley developing agency signs contracts

On Tuesday, the agency in charge of developing the valley of the Bouregreg River in Rabat signed three contracts with engineering, logistics and architecture companies to achieve the first step of the development project.

The first contract provides for assistance in the design of public spaces in the marina and the quays of the left bank of the river, while the second provides for legal assistance to chose the company to operate the tramway network due to link the neighboring cities of Rabat and Salé.

The third document concerns the project management of the Moulay Al Hassan Bridge that links the two cities. The MIMRAM group, which signed this contract, commits to carry out architecture and technical studies and to follow up the construction work on the bridge.

The new bridge will include pedestrian, bicycle and vehicle lanes in addition to two tramway tracks. The contract also provides for conducting architecture and technical studies on a warehouse and a parking to be built under the viaduct of the bridge.

The signing took place in Paris where the Moroccan Prime Minister Driss Jettou, accompanied by a governmental delegation, are attending the 8th French-Moroccan intergovernmental meetings. About 20 conventions are due to be signed during the meetings in various sectors such as water management, health, education, employment and territory development. France's Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin said Monday that France supports "launching negotiations on an advanced status in favour of Morocco".

The French Agency for International Development is expected to increase aid to Morocco to 460m euros for 2007-2009, up from 300m euros in 2004-2006. The aid will be a combination of sovereign and non-sovereign concession loans.
