There has been a lot of discussion on these pages about the need for ethical behaviour in the property business in Morocco. A few months ago it was mentioned that a new company had decided to set up a property and real estate service that was based on ethical guidelines. This should be of great interest to anyone thinking of purchasing a property in Fez, or other parts of Morocco.
Now we have a little more information that we can share with you.
The company, Fez Real Estate, based in the Fez Medina, assists with purchase and renovation and addresses the most common complaints about viewing fees and wildly varying commissions by having a set of very strong principles. The key ones listed on their website are:
Our business is governed by a strong belief in ethical behaviour. Openness and transparency are essential components of our business. We will never charge a fee for showing you properties. Because it is a conflict of interest to negotiate on your behalf and at a same time ask for a commission based on a percentage of the price – we have abolished percentage commissions. On completion of a sale we charge a flat fee
We think this a very good move by the company and should force some of the less ethical companies into reviewing the way they have been doing business. The notion of abolishing a percentage commission is certainly worth encouraging.
